Find the Right Format for Your Book
A publishing project begins with a practical choice: how should the finished book look, feel and perform? Compare the formats below, then send us your preferred specification or a reference sample.
Hardcover Book Printing
A hardcover gives art books, reference titles and special editions a substantial presentation. Consider the cover material, endpapers, spine design and whether your project needs a dust jacket or slipcase.
Runsheng’s hardcover options include paper-over-board and cloth covers, with finishes such as foil stamping and embossing.
Paperback and Softcover Book Printing
Paperbacks suit novels, guidebooks, manuals and many commercial publications. A flexible cover can help keep a book lighter, while the paper and binding still need to match its page count and intended use.
Compare the finished thickness and how the book opens before choosing a binding. Send the interior page count and paper preference with your enquiry.
Children’s and Board Book Printing
Picture books, storybooks and board books need a format appropriate to their readers. Page thickness, book size, corner shape and opening behaviour are useful points to discuss at the specification stage.
Share the intended age group and destination market, together with any material or testing requirements for your project.
Textbook and Educational Book Printing
Textbooks, workbooks and teaching resources need readable pages and a practical format for repeated use. Consider writing space, paper opacity and whether the book will be carried between lessons.
For a series, specify the quantity for each title, edition and language version so that the quotation reflects your actual order.
Art, Coffee Table and Gift Book Printing
Illustrated books need thoughtful choices of paper, image placement and presentation. A full spread, a close-up photograph and a dark image can each reveal different aspects of the printed result.
Discuss an appropriate proof for colour-critical artwork, together with any cover finish, slipcase or gift packaging your edition requires.
Pop-Up and Interactive Book Printing
Pop-up books add structural considerations to the printed page. Mechanisms, folds and assembly need to be reviewed together with the artwork and binding.
Runsheng supports paper engineering, die-cutting and hand assembly for these projects. Explore our pop-up book printing services.
Have several titles to print? Include a specification and quantity for each one.
Choose Paper, Binding and Cover Finishes
Your specification should describe more than the book’s appearance. The reading experience, finished weight and packaging also affect the decisions you make.

Paper and Colour
Tell us whether the interior is mainly text, illustrations or photography, and whether readers will write on the pages. If you already use a particular paper, include its weight and surface description or send a sample.
For colour work, agree which proof or physical reference will be used for approval. A screen preview is useful for layout review, but it does not show the feel of the paper or every aspect of a printed finish.
Binding Options
| Binding | Typical applications | What to discuss |
|---|---|---|
| Hardcover / case binding | Reference books, art books, gift editions | Cover material, endpapers, spine and opening requirements |
| Perfect binding | Paperbacks, novels, manuals | Page count, paper thickness and intended use |
| Sewn binding | Books intended for repeated handling | Construction, opening behaviour and the complete specification |
| Saddle stitching | Thin booklets and short publications | Page count, paper thickness and finished size |
| Spiral binding | Workbooks and practical reference material | Coil choice, punched margin and how the book will be used |
The most suitable construction depends on the complete specification. Ask us to review your chosen binding with the size, paper and page count.
Finishing and Presentation
Options to discuss include matte or gloss lamination, foil stamping, spot UV, embossing and debossing. Dust jackets, slipcases and custom packaging can also form part of a hardcover or gift edition.
Use a reference image or sample to explain the effect you want. Finish placement and artwork preparation should be agreed before production.

Get a Quote Based on Your Actual Specification
Book printing cost depends on the quantity, trim size, page count, paper, colour, binding and finishing. Packaging and delivery arrangements also affect the overall project budget.
For a useful comparison, request prices against the same specification and delivery scope. If you are deciding between two quantities or formats, include both in your enquiry.
You can start with a working specification. Mark any undecided items, such as paper or binding, and tell us your priorities so we can discuss the alternatives.
Work With a Book Manufacturer Established in 1956
Runsheng combines book printing, binding and finishing with proofing and sample support. Our production workflow includes file review, print and binding checks, packing inspection and preparation for international shipment.
Before placing an order, use the project discussion to agree three practical points:
- The specification: confirm materials, dimensions, construction and finish.
- The approval reference: agree what the proof or sample is intended to demonstrate.
- The delivery scope: confirm packing, destination and the schedule for your order.
This gives both teams a clear basis for reviewing the finished books.
From Project Brief to Finished Books
- Share your requirements. Send the format, size, page count, quantity, destination and artwork status. Include reference images where useful.
- Review the quotation and specification. Confirm the proposed materials, binding, finishing, packaging and delivery scope.
- Agree proofing and sampling. Discuss the appropriate digital proof, physical sample or structural mockup, including what it covers.
- Approve the project for production. Confirm the final files, agreed reference and specification before the print run.
- Prepare for delivery. Review packing requirements and the shipment arrangements for your destination.
A straightforward paperback and a complex pop-up book need different preparation. Tell us your launch date early so that the project schedule can be assessed.
Prepare Your Artwork for Review
Send your book layout or print-ready PDF together with the latest specification. If the layout is still in progress, describe its status in your first enquiry.
Before final approval, confirm the requirements for bleed, trim, fonts, image resolution and colour preparation with our team. The cover layout also needs to match the final binding and spine dimensions.
For foil, spot UV or other special finishes, identify the intended areas clearly. Ask which file layers or separate artwork are needed before preparing the final production files.
Book Printing FAQs
What types of books can Runsheng print?
Our book range includes hardcover and softcover publications, children’s books, educational books, illustrated gift editions and custom projects. Pop-up and interactive formats are also available.
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum quantity and a practical print-run recommendation depend on the format, materials and construction. Send your planned quantity with the specification. If you are considering several quantities, include each one for review.
How much does custom book printing cost?
A meaningful price needs a defined specification. Include the size, page count, quantity, paper, colour, binding, finishing and delivery destination. Let us know which items are still undecided.
Can I review a proof or sample before production?
Proofs, samples or mockups can be arranged according to the project. Confirm their purpose, materials, scope, cost and timing before proceeding.
Can you recommend paper and binding?
Yes. Tell us how the book will be used and what matters most to the project. A reference sample, existing paper specification or target format makes the discussion more precise.
What files should I send for a quotation?
You can begin with specifications and a description of the artwork. If files are available, include a PDF or representative pages for review. Confirm the final production file requirements before approval.
Can you print several titles or language editions?
Include a separate specification and quantity for each title or edition. Note any shared components and differences so that the quotation can be prepared on the correct basis.
Do you support international delivery?
Yes. Send the destination country and postal code, packing requirements and preferred delivery arrangements. The quotation and schedule should define the agreed shipment scope.
How long will my order take?
Timing depends on the specification, file readiness, approvals, sample requirements and delivery arrangements. Share your required arrival date so that feasibility can be reviewed before ordering.
